  • 0952. National Park Service Era

As early as 1955, the National Park Service surveyed Fort Larned but did not get funds to acquire the site until 1964. Once established as a national historic site, the ranch was restored to its prior condition as a military fort. Nine of the original buildings still stood, so only the blockhouse needed to be rebuilt. Today, construction and restoration continue to take place, aided by volunteers at the site.
