The Fort Hays - Fort Dodge Military Road was opened in late 1867, following arrival of the Union Pacific Railway at Hays City in October 1867. Military supplies for Fort Dodge and other posts in the Southwest were shipped by rail to Hays and transported by wagon train over this road. The exhibit at this site provides detailed information about the military road.
